MHYP supports a nationwide network of forest management associations in Finland, working with multiple organisations that have different roles and ways of operating. As the network grew and data became more central to daily work, the need for a more unified approach to data management became clear. Without shared guidelines, practices varied between organisations, which made reporting slower and collaboration more difficult. At the same time, expectations around data quality, transparency and coordinated development were steadily increasing.
To address this, MHYP needed a data governance framework that could bring consistency across the network while still fitting a multi-organisational environment. The goal was to clarify responsibilities, support better decision-making and ensure data could be used in a secure and sustainable way.

We worked closely with MHYP and representatives from across the network to design a data governance model that reflects how the organisation actually operates.
Through interviews, hands-on workshops and a focused pilot, we identified the most important data areas, clarified ownership between different parties and agreed on shared principles for managing and using data. The solution resulted in a clear and practical governance model, supported by a rollout plan and governance processes that fit into day-to-day work rather than sitting alongside it.

MHYP now has a shared, network-wide model for governing its most important data assets.
Shareholders cross the network understand their roles, know how decisions are made and have a clear framework for using and developing data consistently.
The model has increased clarity, strengthened collaboration and improved the foundation for high-quality analytics and reporting. It also positions MHYP to move confidently toward broader data and AI initiatives, supported by common principles the whole network can rely on.
